Summary:
This summer I planned a series of baseball trips to enable me to see as many of the minor league prospects of the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, and Philadelphia Phillies that were ranked by Baseball America as these teams 2011 top 10 prospects. Included in the plan was that my travel would be limited to approx 300 miles from the metro New York City area, which limited me to attending games played by teams that are located in the Northeastern and Mid-Atlantic States.
This part of the roadtrip was to see those prospects that play for teams in the South Atlantic League (Single-A level). Each of these four major league teams have an affiliate minor league team in this league. They are:
- Lakewood BlueClaws (Phillies)
- Charleston RiverDogs (Yankees)
- Savannah Sand Gnats (Mets)
- Greenville Drive (Red Sox).
To limit travel, the plan was to attended games when the out of state teams played an away game against the Lakewood BlueClaws at FirstEnergy Park, Lakewood, NJ.
Here is a list of the Baseball America top 10 ranked prospects that played for each of these teams.
Philadelphia Phillies: Lakewood BlueClaws
#8 Jesse Biddle (P)
#9 Domingo Santana (OF)
#10 Aaron Altherr (OF).
New York Yankees: Charleston RiverDogs, Charleston, SC
#2 Gary Sanchez (C),
#9 Slade Heathcott (OF)
New York Mets: Savannah Sand Gnats, Savannah, GA
#9 Aderlin Rodriguez (3B)
Boston Red Sox: Greenville Drive, Greenville, SC
#4 Anthony Renaudo (P)
Through the two games I attended, I did see all of these players(except Anthony Renaudo of the Drive) participate in a game. Prior to the date of the Greenville Drive’s trip to Lakewood, Renaudo was promoted to the Boston Red Sox A+ level team the Salem Red Sox. Since there were no longer any of the Sox’s top 10 prospects on the Drive’s roster, I skipped this game.
I wrote a detailed article about this baseball roadtrip titled:
“On the Trail of More of Baseball America’s Top 10 Prospects of the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, and Phillies”
